Hayden rules day one at Round 4 in Lindsay

Team Rockstar Energy Polaris Racing’s Iain Hayden ruled supreme on day one of Round 4 of the Rockstar Energy Drink CSRA Canadian Snowcross Championships in Lindsay, ON this past weekend.

Although day two proved a bit tentative, the seven-time national champ stayed on top of his game at the Lindsay Fairgrounds to remain at the top of the points scoreboard as the title hunt gets ready to kick off the second half of the season March 12-13.

On Saturday Hayden put on a clinic in the Pro Open division, which saw him record an impressive clean sweep day, winning both his heat races as well as the final.  Hayden led the first heat wire to wire. The second heat saw him take a fourth place start to first within a few laps.

The final was a thing of beauty for Rockstar Energy Polaris Racing. Hayden (OTSFF) shot off the starting line on his explosive IQ600, followed by Colby Crapo and Christian Huber (Huber/Piller’s) on identical sleds. The three drivers held those positions from start to finish, giving Rockstar Polaris an impressive 1-2-3 punch at the checkered flag.

In Sunday’s showdown, Hayden snared 2-1 results in his heat races and arrived at the finish line in the final in third place. He started the first heat in second place behind Crapo and followed him across the finish line in that position. The second heat was a reversal of the first: Hayden grabbed the holeshot and led all seven laps with Crapo taking a second place start all the way to the finish line behind Hayden.

Hayden, looking for another win in the final, proved to be a little too anxious and jumped the start. This resulted in him being reclassified from first place to last place at the halfway point of the race. Undaunted, Hayden chewed up the penalty and poured on the gas to come from behind and still finish third when all was said and done.

All in all it was another stellar weekend for Rockstar Energy Polaris, with Huber Racing/Piller’s Crapo pulling off 1-1 wins in his heat races Saturday and snaring runner-up behind Hayden in the final. On Sunday Crapo again recorded a second place finish in the final, with Hayden completing the podium in third.

Crapo’s consistency in Lindsay paid off well in the points chase, as he remains in a solid second place on the scoreboard, four points down from leader of the pack Hayden.

Hayden’s teammate, Dylan Hall, still recovering from his Round 2 injuries, is not expected to pick up the thread until Round 5.

The Rockstar Energy Drink CSRA Canadian Snowcross Championships resume after a two-weekend break on March 12-13 in Timmins, ON.
